Holiday Home Safety

Be safe this holiday season... from About.com:

The holiday season is a time when busy people can become careless and vulnerable to theft and other holiday crime. The following tips from the Los Angeles Police Department Crime Prevention Section can help you be more careful, prepared and aware during the holiday season.

  • Be extra cautious about locking doors and windows when you leave the house, even for a few minutes.
  • When leaving home for an extended time, have a neighbor or family member watch your house and pick up your newspapers and mail.
  • Indoor and outdoor lights should be on an automatic timer.
  • Leave a radio or television on so the house looks and sounds occupied.
  • Large displays of holiday gifts should not be visible through the windows and doors of your home.
  • When setting up a Christmas tree or other holiday display, make sure doors and passageways are clear inside your home.
  • Be sure your Christmas tree is mounted on a sturdy base so children, elderly persons or family pets cannot pull it over on themselves.
  • If you use lights on your Christmas tree ensure the wiring is not damaged or frayed. Frayed or damaged wiring can cause a fire.
  • Place your Christmas tree in water or wet sand to keep it green.
  • Never place wrapping paper in your fireplace.

HOA Dues Deadline is Jan. 1st 2009

Letters have been mailed to all of the residents requesting HOA Dues for 2009. Dues are essential to the maintenance of common areas, utilities, landscaping, pool and clubhouse upkeep, insurance, and taxes. The budget for our annual operating expenses is determined by historical data and future reserve needs for our neighborhood. Detailed line items may be viewed on Homeside's website: http://www.homesideproperties.com/ (login, click documents, click "BOD Financials 2009")

The annual assessment for 2009 is $430.00. Payments are due January 1st. Payments received after January 31st are assessed an 18% per annum late fee (and you will be scorned by your neighbors).

It is essential that all residents pay their annual HOA Dues on time. The pool, tennis courts, and landscaping can't operate without them. If you are delinquent for some the HOA has the authority to place a lien on your house.
